SAP Business One for the
Automotive Industry

Automotive and spare-parts manufacturers use SAP Business One to unify supply, production, warehouse, dealer, and after-sales service on one platform: batch/serial traceability runs from raw material to shipment, and thousands of SKUs move to a dealer B2B portal with dynamic pricing and stock. The result is a production-to-sales chain with fewer order errors, shorter shipping times, and warranty/return/service calls tracked on record.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions in automotive and spare parts

01

Can SAP Business One handle a spare parts catalogue with thousands of SKUs?

It can; there is no practical limit on the number of item records. What matters is catalogue discipline: when item groups, OEM codes and units of measure are set up properly, search and pricing stay fast. Cross-reference matching for equivalent parts is not a standard field, though — it is built with user-defined fields and configuration.

02

Is a dealer B2B portal part of the standard product?

No. A dealer portal is built as a separate web application that talks to SAP Business One in both directions: the dealer sees their own pricing, stock and account balance, and the order they place is created directly as a document in SAP. What is standard is the multiple price list and customer-specific discount structure behind it.

03

Can recalls and warranties be traced down to the part?

Yes. Batch and serial number tracking is a standard inventory feature, so you can see which batch went to which dealer. Warranty and service calls are recorded in the service module, which lets returns and warranty claims be tied back to the part's serial number.

04

Can we connect to the EDI flows our OEM customers require?

Yes, though this is integration work: order, despatch advice and invoice flows are built over SAP Service Layer and an API/EDI layer, monitored in production and alerted on failure. Because every customer has its own format and validation rules, scope is set during the initial analysis based on how many parties you connect.
